Diet and Cancer: What's the Link?

As the second leading cause of death in the U.S., cancer continues to be at the forefront of medical research. According to the National Cancer Institute, there have been approximately 608,570 cancer-related deaths in 2021 alone. Due to its high prevalence, health experts have been searching for ways to reduce the risk of this debilitating disease. While certain factors such as family history or age-related changes may not be under our control, other aspects of our lifestyle can be altered to help aid in cancer prevention. Diet has been linked to disease risk and certain changes can make us less susceptible to developing cancer. These suggested dietary habits include incorporating more plant-based foods within meals, adding garlic, using olive oil, and cutting down on alcohol and processed meats. Though these dietary habits may not completely eliminate cancer risk, they will boost our overall health and help prevent the development of cancer.
